ARIES – American Roots in English Soil

This  Education and Community Project aims to:

Celebrate the historic connections between the County of Lincolnshire, and other parts of Eastern England, and the early history of English Speaking North America, by

Funding: The project is currently based on a co-operative venture between the schools and communities involved and Julian Bower Associates Ltd.

Linking schools and communities: In encouraging and assisting schools and communities to make links with schools and communities in the USA, the focus has been on early settlements in Virginia and New England. The Project has helped schools to visit Jamestown, to set up ‘e-pal’ links with classes in American schools, and to encourage Teachers' visit.

East Lindsey District Council has been actively involved in the ARIES project and the 2007 Jamestown 400th anniversary celebrations as a participant in the Virginia 2007 Community programme. See www.jamestown2007.org.  ELDC have developed and published the ‘On the trail of Captain John Smith, a voyage of Discovery, Lincolnshire to Virginia' which takes visitors through John Smith's native Lincolnshire, and has provided information and interpretation boards at key sites.
